SPEAK UP Program Magnets The magnets are reminders to SPEAK UP for and with Black women. This program was developed because a black woman is 3 to 4 times more likely to die of pregnancy-related complications than a white woman. Research shows that inequities in outcomes are primarily due to differences in how women are treated within the health care setting based on race (racism). Implicit and Explicit SPEAK UP for Black Women Action Pathway includes a series of group and individual learning activities based on quality improvement methods and tools. The multiple steps in the pathway are action oriented and support individuals and groups to develop and implement action plans outlining how they will work as individuals and within organizations and groups to dismantle racism, provide quality equitable respectful care, and eliminate perinatal health disparities.
