Intermittent Auscultation Simulation-Based Education, v2 https://www.perinatalqi.org/store/viewproduct.aspx?id=20031132 https://www.perinatalqi.org/store/viewproduct.aspx?id=20031132

Intermittent Auscultation (IA)

Interactive Simulation-Based Education, v2

Individual Use Only (One Learner) - 5 Simulations

1.0 CNE Credits, Expires May 20, 2024

Intermittent auscultation (IA) promotes freedom of movement and is an evidence-based standard of care for fetal assessment during low-risk labor and childbirth. Research shows increased use of IA can support efforts to safely reduce cesarean birth rates. Despite its importance, many perinatal clinicians lack the training and confidence to safely perform and interpret IA. The Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI) developed this program for nurses, midwives, and physicians attending low-risk labors.

At the completion of the training, the learner will:

  • identify the benefits of intermittent auscultation compared with continuous electronic fetal monitoring
  • demonstrate auscultation and interpret fetal heart rate baseline, accelerations, and decelerations
  • describe how to distinguish between maternal and fetal heart rate during intermittent auscultation

This 45–60-minute online program provides interactive, simulation-based training, and competency assessment designed to improve nurses', midwives', and physicians' IA usage and interpretation skills. This education includes:

  • evidence related to the use of intermittent auscultation
  • correct technique to perform IA effectively
  • IA Practice Guide for interpretation and management of IA findings
  • simulated IA practice scenarios

IA module updates and new features include:

  • Updated citations and references
  • Improved images
  • IA scenarios timer added to assist learners to interpret the fetal heart rate with greater accuracy
  • Narration by the leader author Amy Romano, MBA, MSN, CNM

CNE Expiration Date: 3/14/26

CME Expiration Date: 3/29/25

Every maternal death is a tragedy that traumatizes many, including the healthcare workers involved in caring for the mother and baby. When mothers die, it has an enormous impact on partners, children, and communities, and the rate of maternal death is a marker of the overall health of a society.

It is unacceptable that Black and indigenous women are more likely to die and suffer severe maternal morbidity when giving birth in the United States than women from other races and ethnicities.

The SPEAK UP Implicit and Explicit Racial Bias Education, v3: Bundle of Three Modules includes three modules:

  • Module 1: Why Everyone Must SPEAK UP: Trends and Racial Disparities in Maternal Mortality and Morbidity
  • Module 2: Pledging to SPEAK UP: Recognizing Bias, Inequities, and Racism in Perinatal Care
  • Module 3: How to SPEAK UP Against Racism in Perinatal Care

Audience

These three 30–45-minute web-based modules, developed by the Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI), provide interactive education designed for healthcare workers who care for people who are or may become pregnant.
