Presenter Bio

Dr. Debra Bingham: The Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI) was founded by Debra Bingham, DrPH, RN, FAAN.

PQI's mission is to expand the use of quality improvement in order to eliminate preventable perinatal morbidity and mortality and ensure equity in birth outcomes. Read more about how PQI will accomplish this mission.

Dr. Debra Bingham is a public health leader, educator, author, and consultant with over 30 years of experience. She is also an Associate Professor for Healthcare Quality and Safety in the Department of Partnerships, Professional Education, and Practice at the University of Maryland School of Nursing.

Dr. Bingham has successfully led hospital, stateand national improvement efforts and held key leadership positions. She was the Director of Maternal Child Health Nursing at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt hospitals in New York City, the founding Executive Director of the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative, and the Vice President for Nursing Research, Education, and Practice for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. In 1991 she was named the Nurse of Distinction for New York State, District 1. In 2015 she was given the Caring Award by the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

Dr. Bingham is a registered nurse with a Masters of Science degree in Perinatal Nursing from Columbia University and a Doctorate in Public Health from the University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill.

Debra is a wife, mother, and grandmother who believes that all women and newborns deserve to receive evidence-based respectful perinatal care.
