PQI is proud to announce an expanded version of our Intermittent Auscultation (IA) Training. Our previous training consisted of three simulations but we have now added two new simulations (a total of 5 simulations). Given these enhancements individuals who completed the education will receive 1.0 CNE.

IA promotes freedom of movement and is an evidence-based standard of care for fetal assessment in low-risk labor. Research shows increased use of IA can support efforts to safely reduce cesarean birth rates. Despite its importance, many clinical team members lack the training and confidence to safely perform and interpret IA.

This approximately 45-60 minute web-based program, developed by the Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI), provides interactive, simulation-based training; and competency assessment designed to improve IA skills among nurses, midwives, and physicians.

The IA education program covers:

  • The evidence related to IA
  • The correct technique to perform and document IA
  • Interpretation and management of IA findings
  • Simulated IA practice

This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation for 1.0 CNE credits.

CNE Approval Time Period:  June 1st, 2020 through May 20, 2022.
